Introduction
Jesus Christ is
God's way of making up with mankind. Throughout the ages mankind has been
separated from God by sin and by their desire to live life in their own
way. God has a standard and to be accepted by God we have to meet that
standard which is to be righteous. However God realises that by the very
nature of mankind it is near impossible for us to meet that standard by
our own efforts ("for all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God" - Romans 3 verse 23).

How
can you meet God's standard of righteousness?
So how can you meet
God's standard of righteousness and be accepted by Him if by your own efforts
you are destined to fall short? The answer is quite simply belief in God's
Son Jesus Christ. God sent His Son to live life on earth as a man to preach
salvation and draw mankind back on to God the Father. Then when Jesus'
time on earth drew to an end, He died on the cross so that we could have
life ("For God so love the world that He gave
His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life" - John 3 verse 16).
When Jesus died on
the cross, He was taking our place, accepting our punishment for sin even
though He was righteous and totally without sin. He took the blame for
us so that we could be found blameless before God. He then rose from the
dead on the third day and in doing so defeated the power of death and sin
over those who believe in Him.

How
does Jesus relate to you and me?
How does all this
relate to you and to me? Well before I said that it is near impossible
(if not completely impossible) for us to meet God's standard of righteousness
by our own efforts. However God sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ
who lived life on earth on our terms and conditions. He became a man,
He was tempted as a man, He hungered, felt pain and sorrow, but yet did
not sin (Christ "made Himself of no reputation,
taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And
being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient
to the point of death, even the death of the cross - Philippians 2 verses
7-8; Jesus can sympathize with our weaknesses as He "was in all points
tempted as we are, yet without sin" - Hebrews 4 verse 14; "He was
hungry" - Matthew 4 verse 2; "He began to be sorrowful and deeply
distressed" - Matthew 26 verse 37; "He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities" Isaiah 53 verse 5).
Jesus Christ has
met God's standard of righteousness for our sake on our level (i.e. as
a human being) and now says that if we would believe in Him and in what
He has done for us, He will reward our belief (faith) in Him with righteousness
and God will accept us. This righteousness that we need to be accepted
by God cannot be achieved by our own efforts. It is a gracious gift
from God which can only be accepted if we choose to believe in the death
and the resurrection of the Son of God Jesus
("For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" - Ephesians
2 verses 8-9; "But to him who does not work but believes on Him who
justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness" - Romans
4 verse 5).

What
should you do now?
I would encourage
you to accept God's gift of grace. The Bible says in Romans
6 verse 23 "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord". God has given
us a choice between eternal life in His son Jesus Christ, or death through
sin. Anyone who accepts Jesus into their life does not have to accept the
"wages of sin".
1 Peter 4 verse 8 says,
"love covers a multitude of sin". God is full
of that kind of love and wants to share it with us.

How
do you become a Believer?
How can you accept
God's gift of grace? The Bible says in Romans
10 verse 9 "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe
in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved".
I would therefore encourage you to have a word with God and say something
like: "God I believe in Your Son Jesus Christ and in what He has done for
me though His death and resurrection. I thank You for the love You have
shown me through Him. I would like to accept Your gift of grace. Please
forgive me of my sins and come into my life".

What
is it basically all about?
It's about having a relationship
with God. If you look at the typical relationship between close friends you will
see that they communicate with each other
on a regular basis. They turn to one another for help and advice. They
try hard not to do anything that will offend the other, but if they do,
they apologise and ask for forgiveness. However they will not keep doing
those things which they know that their friend does not like. It should
be the same for our relationship with God. We should communicate with Him
regularly and make Him a part of everything we do. We should consult Him
about decisions we have to make and seek for His direction ("Trust
in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths" - Proverbs
3 verses 5-6). We should make a good effort
not to sin seeing that God is our friend, our father and we do not want to upset
or
offend Him, but if we do, know that God will forgive a repentant heart
("If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"
- 1 John 1 verse 9).

Accepting Jesus
into my life is the best decision I have ever made. The more I relate with
God, the closer I get to Him and the more I feel His presence in my life.
He provides for my needs and has helped me through many tough situations.
Although I slip up from time to time, the more I get to know God, the less
these slip-ups occur and the stronger I get. He has given me hope and placed
an inner joy inside of my heart. This strengthens me from day to day.
